Shaping an athlete's online brand


Every day athletes are making and creating the news. Just look at the stories below and you can see how athletes are using social media to get themselves attention both positive and negative.

We look at the actions of some athletes and wonder... what were they thinking? Maybe, if their agents had a better understanding of the social media community, their clients could avoid putting their foot in their mouth.

Social media has brought on a number of changes to the sports world. Sports used to be about the team, but as the business of sports has grown so too have the individual brands of certain athletes.

  1. I completely agree. Whenever I hear about an athlete getting in trouble for something that was said via a social networking site, I think, "Where is their agent!"

    I think it is sad that agents now have to babysit their athletes because they don't have enough common sense to censor themselves. However, social media can be used in a positive way if players and agents just understood how to use it to their advantage.
